Gifts for Your Wife: A Flower That’s Still Lit Next Year
She has a vase in a cupboard that is only ever used twice a year. It is there because fresh flowers are the gift everyone reaches for, and because they are gone by the weekend. A preserved flower lamp is the same instinct, without the part where the flowers die on the Thursday.
See all 12 lampsThe short answer
A gift for your wife works when it is personal first and expensive second. A preserved flower lamp is a real rose or hydrangea sealed in clear resin, lit from below, and small enough to sit on her side of the bedroom for years. From $59.90, with your wedding date engraved on the base for $5 more.
The engraving is what separates it from a nice object. A date on the base makes it a thing about the two of you rather than a thing that happens to be in the room.
What she actually keeps
Think about the last five things you gave her. Not which ones were most expensive — which ones are still in the house.
Usually it is the small things that landed in a place where she sees them daily. The things that needed setting up, or watering, or finding a spot for, tend to have moved to a drawer.
A flower lamp is deliberately built for that test. It is about the size of a large apple, it goes on a bedside table without rearranging anything, and it does something useful — it is the light she uses before sleep. That is why it stays out rather than away.
The flower, by occasion
If you are buying for a specific date, the flower does some of the work for you. These are the pairings that read most clearly.
| Occasion | Flower | Why | From |
|---|---|---|---|
| Wedding anniversary | Red rose or red hydrangea | Both are unambiguous about lasting love, and the hydrangea fills the sphere more generously | $59.90 |
| Valentine’s Day | Eternal rose | A single deep rose is the least complicated thing to get right | $59.90 |
| Birthday | Purple carnation or sunflower | Admiration rather than romance — a birthday is about her, not the two of you | $59.90 |
| New home | White rose or astrantia | Both are calm and neutral, and neither commits to a colour scheme | $59.90 |
| No occasion at all | Whatever she would have chosen | The gift that lands hardest is the one with no date attached to it | $59.90 |
The date on the base
Engraving is a $5 option and it is the part she will mention to other people. Four or five characters is enough — 14.06.19, her name, or two initials.
Short text looks best on the beech base. Long messages have to be reduced in size and end up looking cramped, which is the opposite of what you are going for.
If you are choosing between a bigger lamp and an engraved one, choose the engraved one. A 65mm lamp with a date on it does more than an 80mm lamp with nothing on it, and it comes to $64.90 rather than $74.90.
One caveat: engraved lamps are made to order, so they cannot be returned unless they arrive damaged or the text is wrong. If you are not confident about the wording, order without engraving — those have a 14-day return window.
If you have left it late
This is worth reading before you order rather than after. Our published processing time is 3–7 business days and delivery is usually another 7–15 business days.
| Situation | What to do |
|---|---|
| Three weeks or more before the date | Order normally, with engraving if you want it |
| Two weeks before the date | Order without engraving — it removes the extra preparation time |
| Under a week before the date | Order anyway and tell her it is coming, then give her something small on the day |

What is a good anniversary gift for a wife?
Something that marks the date rather than something that costs the most. A preserved flower lamp with the wedding date engraved on the base is $64.90 at the 65mm size, and the date is what makes it an anniversary gift rather than a lamp. Flowers are still there years later, which is the entire point of an anniversary.
Is a flower lamp too small a gift?
It is small in size and not in intention. The 80mm version is $74.90 and reads as more substantial on a table, and the sunflower at 100mm is $98.90 if you want something that clearly looks like a centrepiece. Engraving adds a personal layer that a larger, plainer gift does not have.
Will the flowers actually last?
The flower is real and preserved, then sealed inside cured resin, so air and moisture cannot reach it. Kept indoors and out of direct sunlight, it holds its appearance for years rather than days. The resin can take on a warm tint after prolonged UV exposure, which is the one reason to keep it off a sunny windowsill.
Does it need to be plugged in?
No. It is rechargeable by USB and the cable is included, so there is no lead running across a bedside table. One charge lasts an evening on the low setting.
Can I have our wedding date engraved?
Yes. A date, her name, or two initials all fit on the beech base for $5. Keep it short — long text has to be scaled down and looks cramped. Engraved pieces are made to order and cannot be returned unless they arrive damaged or the text is wrong.
What if she doesn’t like the flower I chose?
Non-personalised lamps can be returned within 14 days of delivery if they are unused and in the original packaging. If it arrives damaged, contact us within 7 days with photos and we will replace or refund it. The full terms are in the return and refund policy.
