Resin Flower Lamps: Real Blooms Sealed in Clear Resin

A resin flower lamp is a real flower, preserved and cast inside a clear resin sphere that sits on a lit wooden base. Nothing about the bloom is printed, painted, or plastic — it is the actual flower you would have been given, kept exactly as it looked on the day it opened.

What a resin flower lamp actually is

Three parts, and all three matter. A single preserved bloom sits at the centre of a clear resin sphere. The sphere rests on a base — on every Nitela lamp that base is beech wood, with a warm LED set underneath so the light travels up through the flower rather than shining at it.

That last detail is the difference between a lamp and an ornament. A warm light underneath makes the petals glow from the inside and throws the bud’s silhouette onto the table around it. On a shelf it reads as a lit object, not a display case.

Size is small enough to hold. Nitela’s standard sphere is offered in Small and Medium, and the two largest designs — the sunflower and the lily of the valley speaker lamp — come in a single fixed size.

Resin, dried, or fresh — the difference is what happens to the water

Almost every question about resin flower lamps comes down to one thing: what happened to the water inside the flower. That single step decides how the bloom looks, how long it lasts, and whether you ever have to do anything to keep it.

Fresh flowers Air-dried flowers Preserved in resin
What happens Stems drink water from a vase Water evaporates out; petals dry and stiffen Sap is replaced, then the bloom is sealed inside clear resin
How it looks Full colour and soft petals Muted colour, brittle, papery Close to fresh colour and shape, held in place
Typical lifespan A week or two Months, then the petals start shedding Years, because air and moisture cannot reach it
Care needed Water, trim stems, replace Keep dry and out of the way None — just keep it out of direct sun

This is also why a resin flower lamp stays recognisable as a specific flower. Ask for a rose and you get a rose — not a rose-coloured shape.

Why the flower keeps its colour inside the resin

Two separate things are doing the work, and it helps to keep them apart.

First, the flower is preserved

Before casting, the bloom is treated so its own sap is replaced with a preserving solution. The flower keeps its shape and colour without needing water. This is the same process behind the preserved roses sold in gift boxes — the difference here is what happens next.

Then it is sealed

Resin is poured around the flower and cured until it sets hard and clear. Once cured, the bloom is no longer exposed to air, humidity, or household dust. Those three things are what fade and break down a flower, so removing them is what buys the years.

The one thing that still shortens its life: direct sunlight. UV light is the remaining threat to any resin piece, including the resin itself, which can take on a warm tint after long exposure. Keep the lamp near a window if you like, but not in the path of the sun.

Epoxy resin, UV resin — the short version

If you have been searching for an epoxy resin flower lamp, you have run into the two families of casting resin. Here is the honest difference.

  • Epoxy resinTwo liquid parts that are mixed, poured, and left to cure over a day or more. It is the standard for larger, deeper casts because it can be poured in one go and stays clear. Curing time is measured in hours, not seconds.
  • UV resinSets in minutes under a UV lamp. Excellent for thin layers and small pieces. Harder to use for a deep sphere, because thick single pours can trap heat and cloud while curing.
  • What matters to youNot which one was used, but whether the cast is clear, free of bubbles, and still clear a year later. That is a question about the maker’s process, not the chemistry label.
  • Watch out forListings that use “resin” to mean a moulded plastic flower. If the flower inside is identical across every unit, it was never a real bloom.

What to check before you buy one

Most resin flower lamps look similar in a thumbnail. These are the details worth checking closely, because they are what you live with afterwards.

  • Is the flower real?Look for a photo taken in daylight. Real blooms are slightly irregular — one petal sits a little differently, the spacing is uneven. Perfect symmetry usually means a mould.
  • Clarity of the castA good cast is glass-clear with no cloudiness around the flower and no bubbles trapped against the petals.
  • Light placementLight from underneath glows through the flower. Light from the side just brightens the outside of the sphere.
  • Base materialSolid wood ages well and can be engraved. Painted or plastic bases tend to look cheaper in person than in photos.
  • Whether it can be personalisedAn engraved name, date, or short message along the side of the base turns a nice object into a gift with a reason behind it.
  • How it is packedResin and glass are both fragile in transit. Protective packaging and a stated policy for items damaged in transit matter more here than on most orders.

Resin flower lamp questions

What is a resin lamp?

A resin lamp is a light fitting built around a cast resin body. In the case of a resin flower lamp, that body is a clear sphere with a real preserved flower suspended inside it, lit from below by a warm LED in the base. The resin is there to protect and display the flower, not to replace it.

Can you put real flowers in resin?

Yes, and it is one of the most common ways to keep a meaningful bouquet. Two things have to be right first. The flower must be fully dried or preserved, because any remaining moisture will cloud the resin or turn the petals brown once sealed. And it must be cast in deep enough resin that the flower is completely encased, since any exposed petal will keep breaking down.

How long do dried flowers last in resin?

Far longer than they would outside it. Air-dried flowers on a shelf typically look good for months before petals start shedding, and they keep fading. Sealed inside cured resin, the flower is closed off from air and humidity, so it holds its appearance for years. UV light is the remaining variable — keep the piece out of direct sun.

Is a resin flower lamp the same as resin flower lights?

No, they are two different products that share a search term. Resin flower string lights are small decorative LEDs with moulded resin flower covers, sold in strands and used to decorate a room or a tree. A resin flower lamp is a single piece built around one real flower, and it is meant to be kept.

Does the resin turn yellow over time?

Resin can take on a warm tint after prolonged UV exposure, which is why direct sunlight is the one thing we suggest avoiding. Indoors, away from a sunny windowsill, a well-cast piece keeps its clarity. Nitela lamps are photographed in daylight so you can see the honest colour of the cast before you buy.

Do resin flower lamps need any care?

None beyond a soft dry cloth if it picks up dust, and keeping it out of direct sun. You never water it, you never trim it, and you never replace the flower. That is the whole point of the format.
